Custody & Parenting Time

Michigan Child Custody and Parenting Time Negotiations and Litigations

Emotions run high where the kids are concerned. Our experienced family law attorneys help you work out an arrangement that reflects reality — a loving mom and dad who no longer live together but must work together as co-parents.

Child custody lawyer Heather Dorn will help you see past the disputes to focus on what's in the best interests of your child and what will foster the best ongoing relationship for all. If you cannot reach agreement, she can capably press your case in court.

The Dorn Law Firm, in Southfield, Michigan, serves mothers and fathers in child custody situations in communities in Oakland County, Wayne County and Macomb County and the entire Detroit metro area. Contact us today.

Working Out Custody and Parenting Time

In the long run, a mutual agreement on a parenting plan is usually preferable to "winning" in court. There will be less cost up front, a positive environment for your child, and fewer disputes down the road. Attorney Dorn will protect your interests in temporary orders for custody and support, and in proceedings on permanent custody and parenting time ("visitation"). Ms. Dorn has nd handled hundreds of child custody cases in her 13 years of family law practice.

She will help you negotiate the specifics, whether you will have a traditional split of parenting time (every other weekend and one or two nights a week), or a more shared arrangement, such as a three-day rotation at each home. She can also represent you in modification hearings to alter the parenting plan at a later date.

Child Custody Litigation

The court will base its decision on the best interest of the child. If you believe that you should be the primary parent, or believe that you should have additional parenting time as the non-custodial parent, the judge needs to understand the reasons behind your point of view. Ms. Dorn can articulate your position in a way that perhaps you cannot. Litigation is a last resort, but when it becomes necessary you have an experienced trial lawyer on your side.
